A one-hour faculty development session on Social Analysis was conducted on 15 November 2025 by Fr. Jerold D’Souza. The session aimed to strengthen the social awareness of educators and highlight their responsibility in building a just and inclusive society. Through three interconnected modules, the resource person guided the faculty in understanding historical social issues, examining present-day realities, and identifying practical ways to reduce discrimination among students. The first module revisited major pre-independence social issues such as sati, casteism, racism, and gender inequality, linking them to the core constitutional values of justice, equality, liberty, and fraternity. Fr. Jerold emphasized that although these values form the moral foundation of India, they continue to be inadequately practiced in modern society. The second module focused on present social realities, illustrating how various forms of discrimination persist in today’s socio-political environment and subtly influence students’ perspectives. In the final module, faculty members actively participated in proposing strategies to eliminate discrimination, including promoting constitutional values, encouraging inter-cultural programmes, fostering scientific thinking, and modelling inclusive behaviour in classrooms. The interactive discussion also addressed questions related to handling discriminatory behaviour and integrating constitutional values into everyday teaching. Overall, the session was insightful and impactful, enriching the faculty’s understanding of social structures and inspiring them to adopt more inclusive and compassionate educational practices.
