    • 17 Mar 2026

Loyola Degree College, Manvi, in collaboration with the Azim Premji Foundation, organized a workshop titled “Lingamela” (Gender Fair) on the theme “National Progress is Possible Only When Women are Empowered.” The programme aimed to create awareness about gender equality and highlight the importance of empowering women for the overall development of society. Addressing the gathering, Principal Fr. Vinod Paul emphasized that gender equality cannot be achieved through laws alone, but must begin with a transformation in individual mindsets. He described women as the “eyes of society” and stressed that true national progress is possible only when they are empowered. The session also highlighted that meaningful change occurs when women raise their voices against deep-rooted social evils such as child marriage, the dowry system, and female foeticide. Mr. Rajesh, Taluk Coordinator of the Azim Premji Foundation, pointed out that the foundation of gender equality begins at home, and removing gender biases within families is essential for building a just and balanced society. The workshop was made highly interactive by resource persons Raj Mohammed, Maunesh, Shruti, and Kavya, who engaged students through activities by dividing them into teams named after major rivers—Krishna, Bhima, Ghataprabha, and Malaprabha. Through these activities, students gained a deeper understanding of important values such as equality, equity, justice, and dignity. The workshop provided a platform for students to share their experiences and recognize the need for collective efforts to bring about a change in societal perspectives. The programme was moderated by student Rakshita, while the prayer was led by Celine Priya and her team. Vice-Principal Khasim Saab was also present on the dais. Overall, the “Lingamela” workshop was a meaningful and impactful initiative that reflected the institution’s commitment to promoting gender sensitivity and social responsibility. Such programmes play a crucial role in bridging the gender gap by encouraging dialogue, awareness, and active student participation, making it inspiring to see educational institutions in Manvi take proactive steps toward building a more equitable society.
